Abstract: Yaks are mainly distributed in the alpine pasture of Qinghai-Tibet plateau and the dominant cattle breed in animal production of grassland resources in this region. The adverse cultivate environment, extensive management and irrational livestock structure are main factors resulting in low production performance of yaks in this region. We analyzed the above mentioned main factors and proposed some countermeasures to improve the production performance of yaks, such as improving nutrition, scientific breed selection, early weaning, so as to provide references for the scientific cultivation of yaks in this region.
