Abstract: From 2010 to 2011, a variety test on 18 domestic and overseas alfalfa varieties such as Golden Queen, Three Profits and Farmers was conducted on the moderate saline-alkali land in Datong Basin. The germination rate, emergence rate and fresh forage yield of various varieties were compared. The dry weight/fresh weight ratio of forage for each variety was determined in 2011, and a comparative analysis was conducted to the dry forage yields of the varieties. The results showed that Golden Queen, Three Profits and Farmers had good adaptability for cold and salinity resistance and obvious yield-improving strength in moderate saline-alkali soil. Therefore we suggest that Golden Queen, Three Profits and Farmers be wildly promoted in mild to moderate saline-alkali soil in Datong Basin and other areas, so as to raise the effectiveness of cultivation.
