Abstract: Zhongdian yak is the main livestock breed in high-altitude areas in Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. However, there are some problems in rearing of Zhongdian yak calves under the traditional breeding condition, which mainly manifest in the following aspects: warming facilities shortage, inadequate suckling, low level of supplementary feeding,poor physical condition, and deficient prevention and treatment measures against diseases. Therefore, in view of the existing problems in rearing of Zhongdian yak calves, a series of key technical measures, such as strengthening the construction of warming facilities, enhancing the management of pregnant female yak, and emphasizing the rearing, supplementary feeding and disease prevention and control of newborn yak, were proposed.
