Abstract: Because the seed coat of Iris lactea Pall. had mechanical and physical obstacles,it had the characteristics of deep dormancy and it was difficult to germinate under normal circumstances. The seed coat of L lactea was treated by hot water treatment ,roller compaction, acid etching and alkaline etching and other method. The results showed that roller compaction, acid etching and alkaline etching had a significant effect on seed germination （P〈0.05）. The best treatment method was alkaline etching for 20 h.
