Abstract: The dry root of Pulsatilla chinensis belonging to family Ranunculaceae has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine for treatment of intestinal diseases.It has good preventive and curative effects in clinic when it is used as single herb or served as monarch drug in windflower decoction.Modern pharmacological studies have confirmed that the extracts of Pulsatilla chinensis have antibacterial,antiviral,anti-oxidant,anti-schistosome,anti-coccidial and immune-enhancing effects.The research progress of pharmacological effects of Pulsatilla chinensis was reviewed.
