Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of selenium-containing polysaccharides from selenium -enriched A uricularia auricular and common polysaccharides from A uricularia auricular. Spectrophotometry assay was used to determine the scavenging capacity of selenium-containing polysaccharides and common polysaccharides against ·OH radical and ·O2 radical. The results revealed that both of the selenium-containing polysaccharides and common polysaccharides exhibited the activity to scavenge and balance a variety of active .OH radical and ·O radical; the selenium-containing polysaecharides had better scavenging capacity against .OH radical and ·O2 radical than common polysaccharides; the scavenging rate against the radicals of both of the polysaecharides was increased with the increasement of their concentrations; both of the selenium-containing polysaecharides and common polysaceharides had antioxidant activity in vitro, and their antioxidant activity was positively related with their concentrations. It is indicated that compared with the common polysaccharides from A uricularia auricular, the selenium -enriched A uricularia auricular has stronger antioxidant activity, and it performs better in alleviating the injuries caused by radicals.
