Abstract: Amniotic fluid-derived stem cells (AFSCs) exist in the amnionic fluid of human and animals. AFSCs are generally acknowledged as a special cell type between embryo stem cells (ESCs) and adult stem cells (ASCs), thereby, they have the biological characteristics of embryo stem cells and adult stem cells. The keeping of AFSCs characteristics is based on the whole specific expression of its marker gene and genome. At present some marker genes of AFSCs at different gestational ages like Oct4, Sox2, Nanog and SSEA have been studied, and expression characteristics of Tra-1-60 and Tra-1-81 in genome have been analyzed. Research progress on AFSCs was summarized to provide reference for research on amnionic fluid stem cells.
