Abstract: The parturition of 60 boars(Landrace,Yorkshire and Duroc) and more than 300 sows(Landrace,Yorkshire and Duroc) in the largest original pig breeding farm of Anhui Province were collected for analysis.Artificial insemination and natural mating were compared between these species to study the effects of different mating manners on litter traits in sows of different species. And correlation between parity and litter size was analyzed.Compared to the natural mating, the artificial insemination affected litter size or viable litter size significant(P〈0.05).The litter size or viable litter size was significant different between artificially inseminated sows and naturally mating sows(P〈0.05).The results indicated that artificial insemination can effectively substitute natural mating in breeding pigs although the former require highly strict operation.
