Abstract: The cut-grassland in Zhaosu Horse Ranch of Yili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang were harvested in July and August of 2013. The grass yield and forage quality were analyzed. The results showed that the cutting period had no obvious effect on the yields of fresh grass and hay in cut-grasslands that had been established for third years and seventh years. The crude protein content in the forage that was cut in August was significantly decreased than that in July (P〈0.05). The proportion of leguminous plants in the cutting herbage had no significant changes with the cutting period, but leaf-stem ratio was significantly decreased in August (P〈0.01). The content of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber in the forage cut in August was increased in different degrees (P〈0.05). Therefore, the reasonable cutting period for Zhaosu Horse Ranch's cut-grassland was in early and middle stages of July, the forage yield and quality were better.
