Abstract: The aim of the present study was to characterize the antimicrobial resistance profile of Escherichia coli(E. coli)isolates from chicken in Henan province. A total of 120 samples were recovered from the large-scale chicken farm, and the E.coli stains were isolated and subsequently confirmed by a commercial automated microbiology identification system(BD Phoenix^TM-100). The susceptibility of the E. coli isolates to the selected antimicrobial agents was determined by broth micro-dilution test. The results showed that a total of 100 E. coli isolates were obtained with the isolating rate of 83.3%; high resistance rate(above 80%) were observed to tetracycline, ampicillin, sulfafurazole, enrofloxacin, and compound sulfamethoxazole. Our investigation demonstrates the prevalence of antibiotic resistant E. coli isolates in chicken farms in Henan Province.
