Abstract: Wannan black pig is one of the fine local pig breeds in China. It is a kind of meat and fat type pig breed formed by long-term breeding based on north China black pig in the southern mountainous area of Anhui Province. It is mainly distributed in Ningguo and Jixi of Xuancheng City. In recent years, due to the large-scale introduction of foreign pig varieties, the threat of pig epidemics and the operational difficulties of some pig varieties conservation enterprises, the population quantity of Wannan black pig has been shrinking year by year, and the excellent genes of this pig variety are at risk of loss. This paper summarizes the protection status of germplasm resources of Wannan black pig in southern Anhui Province. Furthermore, by analyzing the existing problems, we put forward the corresponding countermeasures for the conservation, development and utilization of Wannan black pig.
