Abstract: Alfalfa is an important strategic resource and a high-quality protein source for dairy cow breeding. China′s forage industry started late. Although the planting area ranks second in the world, due to backward technology, the supply of high-quality grass for commodity is inadequate. This paper expounds the current situation and existing problems of market supply and demand of alfalfa industry in China from three aspects of domestic alfalfa commodity supply, market demand and trade, calculates the demand and gap between production and demand of high-quality alfalfa grass, analyzes the impact of Sino-US trade friction on domestic alfalfa and dairy market, and puts forward relevant policy suggestions.
