Abstract: To ensure normal growth and safety over-wintering of different varieties of alfalfa and improve land utilization rate and increase income, over-wintering characterization and yield from three varieties of alfalfa sowing in Autumn were investigated in the article. The result indicated that over-wintering rate of them was over 70 % with sowing on 5, August, over 50 % on 13, August, and 10.9 % -38.7 % on 20, August. Nol of Zhongmu alfalfa shouldn't be sowed later than in the middle of August, Jinhuanghou alfalfa should be sowed early in August, and Ningnm alfalfa should be sowed late in July.. The result also showed that all their yields of sowing on 5, August were higher than that of sowing on 5 and 13, August; in the same sowing period, the yield of No 1 of Zhongmu alfalfa among them was the highest reaching 10.49 t/hm^2, and Ningmu alfalfa was the lowest. There were markedly different in sowing period, varieties (P〈0.01 ).
