Abstract: In order to develop Pennisetum sinese as a feed resource for beef cattle and to assess the feeding value of Pennisetum sinese on beef cattle, the feeding effect of corn stalk silage, whole ear corn silage and Pennisetum sinese silage on crossbred beef cattle of Charolais and Qinchuan cattle were evaluated and statistically compared. The results showed that the individual average daily gain of the crossbred beef cattle fed with whole ear corn silage and Pennisetum sinese silage were elevated by 35.3% and 17.6% compared to that of the beef cattle fed with corn stalk silage, respectively; whole ear corn silage was better than Pennisetum sinese silage. Collectively, Pennisetum sinese has the potential to serve as feed resource in winter in northern Shaanxi area.
