Abstract: In order to study the effect of propolis on production performance of sows, sixteen pregnant sows (Landrance ×Yorkshire) whose mating date and parity were similar were selected and randomly assigned into control group and treated group. The control group were only fed with the basal diet, while the treated group were fed with the basal diet added with propolis. The test began when sows with 81 days of gestation were moved into farrowing house and ended when 21 days piglets had been weaned for 7 days. Results showed that compared with control, the average gain of weaning piglets in treated group was improved by 0.62 kg (P〈0.01), and the survival rate was improved by 4.51% (P〈0.05). In the lactation and 7 days before weaning, the diarrhea incidence of piglets in treated group was decreased by 1.37% (P〈0.05) and 2.96% (P〈0.01), respectively. Therefore, propolis can improve the production performance of sows greatly.
