Abstract: The compound preparation "Lianteng" was composed of Chinese herbal medicine Forsythia suspensa (Thunb.)Vahl and Caulis sinomenii. The effective components of this compound preparation were extracted by using water decoction and ethanol extraction method. By acute toxicity test, maximum tolerance test and abnormal toxicity test, the safety of the compound preparation "Lianteng" was evaluated. The anti-inflammatory function of the compound preparation "Lianteng" was detected by using dimethylbenzene-induced auricle-swollen test of mice. The results showed that the compound preparation "Lianteng" was nontoxic and the maximum tolerance dose was 18 g/(kg.bw). In the anti-inflammatory test in vivo, the repression rate of swelling in high dose group [ 10.0 g/(kg.bw) ] and medium dose group [5.0 g/(kg.bw) ] of compound preparation "Lianteng" was obviously higher than that in positive control group (dexamethasone) . The compound preparation "Lianteng" was safe and nontoxic and it had good anti-inflammatory effects and developmental potential .
