Abstract: [Objective] To characterize the distribution and antibiotic resistance pattern of Campylobacter coli from chickens in Henan Province. [Method] A total of 460 cloaca swab samples were collected from chicken farms to isolate the Campylobacter coli strains. The confirmative identification of the isolates was performed using PCR assay and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). The antimicrobial susceptibility test was carried out with broth micro-dilution method. [Result] A total of 42 Campylobacter coli strains were obtained with an isolating rate of 9.13%. High levels of resistance to ciprofloxacin, nalidixic acid and azithromycin were observed, and the resistant rate was 95.24%, 90.48% and 71.43%, respectively. [Conclusion] The antimicrobial resistant Campylobacter coli strains isolated from chickens are prevalent in Henan Province. Further attention should be given to the prudential use of veterinary antibiotics.
